Arson at 312 Azusa Street
An unknown arsonist sets fire to several buildings in Los Angeles, California, overnight, including the vacant sanctuary at 312 Azusa Street. The pitch roof and much of the internal walls of the second floor sancturary are destroyed. The building is declared a total loss. The board at First African Methodist Episcopal Church decides to repair the building. They give it a flat roof, and build a series of rooms on the second floor. The ground floor is let out to local contractor for storing materials.
